I know my website is about Oakland but I am excited about a new construction project on 10th and Market in San Francisco. Or 10th and Mission, depending what side you’re looking at it from.
Why? Because I work across the street and the neighborhood is exploding.
It has been dubbed Silicon Alley because a number of high tech firms are moving in including Twitter, Yammer, Dolby, Square, Callsocket and more.
Currently the neighborhood is pretty bleak and ugly. I even call it “Zombie Land” because it is kind of far for SOMA(South of Market) and not yet The Mission District. However after this project is done and all the new companies move in this could be the hottest spot in SF.
The sign at 10th and market currently says Rent NEMA and after a little research it turns out they are going to call this area “New Market”.
They have a website up but right now it is very bare providing no information and really hard to look at. It’s quite terrible.
Well, update! They have changed the site from bright colors spinning in circles to an actual website.
What is Crescent Heights?
The current construction project consist of 2 main towers and 2 smaller buildings connecting the the 4 buildings on 10th Street running from Market to Mission.
The main tower on 10th and Market will be a total of 35 floors according to multiple sources and the address will be 1401 Market Street.
The secondary tower on the Mission side will be a total of 22 stories with a large retail space located on the ground floor level. I have confirmed this by talking with construction workers on the site. No one has been able to tell me what will be in there but I have been told by someone at my office who did neighborhood development research that it will be a Whole Foods. I am unable to find any information confirming this but the space does look like one huge grocery store so far.
There will be 2 smaller buildings connecting the 2 towers. These will 9 and 12 story buildings.
The project is supposed to provide 754 residential units with retail space at the floor level. It looks like new restaurants and store fronts is what they are aiming for.
The modern towers will have rooftop gardens and be LEED Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The construction is being done by Swinerton Builders who has completed many projects in Oakland.
How much to rent?
These are not affordable at all.

Ohhhhh San Francisco and it’s insane cost of living.
