Port of Oakland Free Harbor ToursThe Port of Oakland used to offer FREE Harbor Tours for all of you Oakland History buffs. I have personally gone on this tour twice since I used to work at the Port. You take a nice slow cruise through the Ports Harbor viewing all of the ships and cranes! It’s pretty amazing and you get to hear a lot of facts and history you just may have never learned otherwise. It is also a GREAT chance to take pictures of the cranes as well!

*UPDATE* As many of you know they are NOT doing the Tour this year(2009). Sad but true.
Update 2012: They have not offered the free harbor tours in a few years and I don’t think they are coming back.

Oakland murders in 2012 are on the rise and we have had some very tragic deaths including innocent bystanders, children, a school shooting and more. It’s still too early in the year to tell if we’re on the rise or if it will settle with the new 100 block plan by Mayor Jean Quan.
Well it seems at this point crime is on a rise and the 100 block plan has been canceled.

Text Updates From Oakland Police Department OPD

Oakland Police Department buildingIt’s simple, just text your zip code to 888777.
That’s it! You’re done! Be prepared to get updates from your local Police Department.
The service is Nixle.

Also there is an app for Android Phones by the name of Scanner Radio Pro that will allow you to listen live to a wide array of Police radio frequencies and more. I use it pretty often.

The Genie So this guy seems to be on a whole nother level! I mean really have you ever seen anything like this? He creates bad ass beats with a laid out guitar as if it were some turntables and he loops, distorts and tweeks with his feet! You HAVEEEE to check his stuff out. I saw him last night at Speak The Music and bought both of his CD’s. I can’t even play the second one because the first one is too bad ass to take out. Here is a video but check him out.

Well this sense but it’s a little too late.
The cities largest / oldest Oak Tree was unattended in Dimond Park and was lost due to disease back in 2005.
So now they are asking people to report old trees so that they may be watched after and maintained so we don’t lose any more of these ancient Oakland Residents.
To find out more info.
