Oakland Coliseum renamed to Overstock Coliseum

Well you have it, the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority made a deal with the Utah based online retail giant Overstock.com today to display their name for 6 years at a rate of 7.2 million dollars. It will be dished out in increments starting with 1.2 million the first year and a 3% increase each year after that. However Overstock has the option to leave the contract early if either teams leave Oakland. Which is a high risk possibility. Currently both teams are leased to play in Oakland till 2013, at which point it is unknown because the Oakland A’s have been trying to leave for Fremont or San Jose and the Oakland Raiders have been having problems selling out since they built Mt. Davis back in 1996.

50% of the income generated by the deal will go to the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority while the other 50% will go to the Oakland Raiders. The Oakland Athletics were left out of the deal because the team already receives income from the billboards and signage inside of the stadium.

The coliseum has been brandless since 2008 when McAfee did not renew their 10 year advertising contract.

Overstock plans to have signs up within 30 days and can change the name at anytime since the company is currently working on re-branding their image to O.co. In which case they say they don’t mind the nickname “The Big O” for the coliseum. And Oakland is already referred to as “The O” or “The Biggity Biggity O“. Next door you already have the “Oracle Arena” where the Golden State Warriors play.

Facts:

  1. The Oakland Coliseum was built in 1966 and is currently the 5th oldest MLB stadium.
  2. It seats 63,000 in full attendance for the Raiders but only 34,000 for the A’s due to the tarp on the upper deck now.
  3. It houses both the Oakland A’s MLB baseball team and the Oakland Raiders NFL football team.
  4. The first game was a Raiders game on September 16, 1966.
  5. The Athletics moved to Oakland from Kansas in 1967 and played their first game on April 17th 1968.
  6. The Raiders left for Los Angeles in 1981 and returned to Oakland in 1995.

This is not about Oscar Grant or the BART Police officer who shot and or murdered him. People have reason to be outraged, but we have tons more reasons that effect us directly, have been largely ignored and going on for decades. I’m glad at least this got you guys together to speak up.
But I do I think last night was completely uncalled for.

Don’t get me wrong. I think we should have the right to assemble. But when people start breaking innocent business owners property, burning cars and hurting others… then you can not assemble.
Last night was like a sideshow without cars. Not a protest.

Most of the true protesters went home before all this started.
The kids or whatever you want to call them started gathering and acting fools.
Seems they had a few ill minded ring leaders wearing mask acting as if they were genuine to the cause. I bet they were Provocateur Agents. White people in mask rioting? LOL Definition Agent Provocateur
Yeah sure, some of them could have been genuine and wanting to hide their identity from work or whatever. But read about these agents. They do exist.

We gotta remember, our very own government puts people into crowds to instigate this sort of situation.
If you have masses of people protesting in a peaceful manor then they really can not do anything. They WANT you to act up, they can’t wait for you to give them the green light so they can go in and break you up and discredit your peaceful intent with acts of violence.
So they throw some of these agents in to start the actions and then all the youngsters follow making YOU the protesters the bad guys.

Also…. FUCK THE POLICE? Yelling that over and over? Really? For one, BART Police was involved in this shooting, not Oakland Police. OPD is out there risking their lives so you can be safe. Because trust me, without them people would be killing each other at much higher rates. This picture here shows a cop stuck doing something I’m sure he does not want to be part of. Because it is his job. To protect us. And last night we needed to be protected from idiots. Business owners are very thankful that the police were there to stop further damage from the “community”.

See what I’m saying here? Don’t fuck up your city cause a few insiders start it off. Stop them. Remain on a peaceful message. Control those around you, isolate the who-riders and let them know they are alone in committing their crimes. All this bullshit talk about “community” from angry “members” of the “black community” then you go destroy your own community. WTF?
What would Ron Dellums do?
