Oakland Police Department issued a warning today, Tuesday because there has been one attempted sexual assault at 1400 3rd Ave(corner of East 14th) and a reported 6 robberies within 2 hours in the East Lake neighborhood this evening.
This is the fourth reported sexual assault in the area in the last 7 months with a description of possibly the same suspect. Two of the assaults now have taken place on 3rd Ave and International. One of the attacks took place on Lakeshore and East 18th. This is right on the Lake by the Tennis courts on a busy street. The suspect is described as a black male standing 5’10 to 6’0 tall.
I would like to remind people to be careful. Not even 2 weeks ago while at Lucky’s on East 18th about 8pm someone was robbed right in front of the store in the parking lot in front of multiple people and security.
A few weeks before that someone was robbed, shot and killed on my block.
According to this map from 2007-2008, crimes have gone up around the east side of the lake. My guess is in the past 10 years many more transplants have moved into the area making it a prime place to rob unsuspecting new comers. Be aware.
